Carpobrotus quadrifidus is a ground-covering, succulent leaf plant with multiple branching of prostrate stems that may grow to 1 m in length to spread widely.

It produces large pink flowers abundantly. Several species of the sour figs are eaten by humans and also by some animals. They are popular with some industrious and informed housewives for the making of a preserve. Carpobrotus belongs to the mesemb family.
