Polygala virgata var. virgata dark flowers

On the plant in picture the magenta flower colour of Polygala virgata var. virgata is darker than sometimes seen, the veins on the inner sepals less conspicuous and the crested keels of open flowers prominently exposed to view. Outer sepals are visible on top of the inner ones, especially on buds ready to open at the top of the raceme (Manning, 2009).
