    Kumara haemanthifolia and mesemb

    Kumara haemanthifolia and mesemb
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

Kumara haemanthifolia, until recently Aloe haemanthifolia, may be perched inaccessibly on ledges and in crevices on cliffs of Cape sandstone slopes; sometimes at the edges of rock slabs.

Safety probably exceeds comfort here. The risk of physical interference from a hostile party is low, but so are the resources for meeting the needs associated with good living; although moisture is not in short supply. The annual rainfall on these mountains is around 2000 mm per annum (Van Wyk and Smith, 2003; Reynolds, 1974; iSpot).
