The leaves of Hermas villosa, the tinderleaf, are big, brightly green and shiny. They are positioned sessile on the stems or on short stalks. The leaf shape is oblong to elliptic with a broad white midrib, conspicuous in the lower half of the leaf. The lower leaf surface is white-felted like the stems, the leaf margins finely toothed and usually rolled under.

Leaves ascend, only the tips curving downwards slightly. Leaf dimensions are roughly 15 cm long by 6 cm wide (Bean and Johns, 2005; Manning, 2007; iSpot).
