    Hermannia alnifolia flower

    Hermannia alnifolia flower
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The yellow flowers of Hermannia alnifolia are borne in great numbers at branch tips. Each bell-shaped flower is clasped at the back by a hairy green calyx.

The furled petals overlap each other in a roll, one lateral margin showing on the outside and the rounded petal tips flaring around the small mouth. The filaments of the stamens contained inside the corolla are paddle-shaped.

Flowering happens from late winter to midspring (Manning, 2007; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984).
