    Lebeckia pauciflora flowers, green calyces

    Lebeckia pauciflora flowers, green calyces
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The flowers of Lebeckia pauciflora are here sparsely spread along the racemes. Pauciflora means having few flowers (Latin). The sepals are narrow, long and pointed around the yellow corolla.

The young buds in picture appear dark, orange to brown above the open flowers in picture. The withered flower below retains a persistent style.

Flowering happens from spring until midsummer. Flat pods of up to 12 cm are produced later (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Manning, 2007).
