Holothrix secunda, commonly known as tryphia, one of its earlier generic names, is a small, tuberous perennial that grows an erect stem varying in height between 4,5 cm and 30 cm.

There are no stem leaves or bracts under the flowers of this species (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2010; Williamson, 2010).
