Leucadendron argenteum tree in the veld

Thriving in habitat, this slender Leucadendron argenteum tree points its silver-tipped, young branches up around the erect main and secondary stems. Single-stemmed at the base, the bark is thick. Silver leaf trees do not usually spread widely.

The fynbos company it keeps here includes a greener, more bushy Leucadendron relative. L. argenteum is by far the tallest of all the leucadendrons, although a few others are sometimes called trees (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Rebelo, 1995; iNaturalist; Wikipedia).
