The percentage of people that don’t care about the reducing biodiversity on earth should be reduced to a minimum by education, leadership and example. Because we are part of it, it is ours to care for, our heritage, our future.

If people can’t feed their children, new solutions to gain income will be sought, rhino poaching and trading in rhino horn added to the list of options. Surely people should be cared for, jobs should be created and opportunities for brighter future are necessary for any of the basics to keep standing in society. Why should we need to dehorn baby rhinos to keep them safe? When it’s not the hungry and destitute that drive extermination of threatened species for gain, it is the avaricious who should be stopped by the law being applied properly.

In the complex ecology of people, animals, trees, clean water and so much more, many things should be attended to. One can never do only one thing for healing a diverse community scrambling for a living. Fortunately, people are differently gifted for dealing with the diverse challenges.

So many people are marginalised, watching helplessly as their children suffer and their natural heritage is degraded. Empowering starts from within, examples of small victories and achievements contribute. One does not need to be a hero to make a difference. But those that do make a difference easily become heroes.
