The grey Helichrysum patulum bush managing yellow flowerheads in their usual branched clusters was seen in the Salmonsdam Nature Reserve during November.

Some flowering stems have grown long, too long for staying erect in some cases, but one does not always anticipate correctly how far is safe to stick one’s neck out!

The yellow disc florets are surrounded at the base by several rows of involucral bracts that are broad, blunt-ended, hairless and incurving (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Manning, 2007; Bean and Johns, 2005; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
