    Lobelia chamaepitys flowering

    Lobelia chamaepitys flowering
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: MC Botha

Solitary on naked pedicels, but sharing their floral moment above the leaves, Lobelia chamaepitys flowers are borne horizontally from a bend just behind each calyx. Pedicel brown comes in shades that are probably age-related. The narrow, dark sepals are small around the back ends of the blue corollas.

There appear to be slight ridges down the central folds on the three large petal lobes of the lower lip, as well as slight mucro-like protrusions at these lobe tips (Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist).
