Gnidia pinifolia, the other bud colour

Gnidia pinifolia, the other bud colour
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: MC Botha

The buds on this Gnidia pinifolia bush start off deep reddish pink, losing that colour or almost all of it as they develop. The pink is an occasional phenomenon.

The pointed scales on some older flowers are white here, not the often-seen cream, while some still appear a tad pinkish (Bean and Johns, 2005; iNaturalist; https://www.fernkloof.org.za; https://pza.sanbi.org).
