    Hoodia pilifera subsp. pilifera follicles

    Hoodia pilifera subsp. pilifera follicles
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

The paired fruit follicles of Hoodia pilifera subsp. pilifera are cylindrical, tapering to their tips in a spindle-shaped way.

In the photo taken in a rocky spot on the Minwater farm near Oudtshoorn, the diverging follicle pairs are brown to dark brown. They are positioned slightly above halfway up the stems (Frandsen, 2017; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
