    Hermannia cernua sprawling

    Hermannia cernua sprawling
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

Hermannia cernua is sometimes called the rankpoproos (rambling dollsrose) in Afrikaans. When growing in that manner it may sprawl into a mat or shallow dome as here.

The young stems are often reddish. The ovate to lanceolate leaves have round-toothed or scalloped, undulating margins.

The photo was taken near Oudtshoorn in the Little Karoo (Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
