    Gibbaeum pubescens clump conference

    Gibbaeum pubescens clump conference
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

Gibbaeum pubescens leaves in good shape have the tall member of each pair finger-like and erect, Karoo veld politicians pontificating in silence to non-comprehending audiences. An extremely pleasing situation, in the interest of the country.

The other member of each pair might be a submissive spouse only saying: ”Yes, dear!”

Smooth in appearance but given away by the pubescence in their name, they are all well-heeled, fitting into a close-knit community. They do this so well that the sinister house on fire idiom applies. New leaf-pairs arrive in unison seasonally, like children in a localised population explosion, resulting from the intimate liaisons of the joined couples.

Just as well somebody photographed this lot for the world to note.
