    Caputia tomentosa old stems

    Caputia tomentosa old stems
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

Getting old in the Sanbona Wildlife Reserve, these elongated Caputia tomentosa branches have developed long bare sections below the leaf clusters found at the tips.

As the dry season can be severely demanding, some branches are lost forever, but rain is a dramatic motivator, invigorating all veld plants that were cutting losses just yesterday (Smith, et al, 2017; iNaturalist).
