    Sericocoma avolans leaves and flowers

    Sericocoma avolans leaves and flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Louis Jordaan

The sessile, simple leaves of Sericocoma avolans grow sparsely, opposite or partly alternate and ascending to spreading up the stems.

Leaf-shape is linear to lanceolate, the tip acutely pointed ending in a short mucro. The margins are entire. The smooth green blades are slightly fleshy. Leaf dimensions are about 20 mm long and up to 5 mm wide.

The silky, pink, stem-tip inflorescence on a few-leaved stem comprises a cylindrical spike of small florets that lose their colour with age (Van Rooyen and Van Rooyen, 2019; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Shearing and Van Heerden, 2008; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
