    Nivenia binata

    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

Nivenia binata, the bergbloublom (mountain blue flower), is a well-established shrublet that grows on the southern slopes of the Swartberg Mountains and possibly in the Kammanassie.

The many-flowered, flattish inflorescences are bright blue, positioned just above the pointy, pale leaf fans at the branch-tips.

The fruit capsules that follow are oblong and rigid (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
