Delosperma lebomboense

Delosperma lebomboense, previously known as D. tradescantioides var. lebomboense, is a prostrate, creeping shrublet that covers its patch of ground without gaining much height.

The species distribution is in KwaZulu-Natal and Mpumalanga, as well as in some neighbouring states. The specific name, lebomboense, refers to the Lebombo Mountains where the plant was first collected. The photo was taken near Barberton.

The habitat is shady patches or grassland receiving summer rain. The species is not considered to be threatened in its habitat early in the twenty first century (Smith, et al, 2017; Hardy and Fabian, 1992; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
