Grielum humifusum flower profile and buds

Grielum humifusum flower profile and buds
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The Grielum humifusum (or G. grandiflorum or even a hybrid of the two) flower growing at Tietiesbaai also known as Cape Columbine, is effectively held up by a longish, sturdy pedicel.

The large, pale yellow to cream petals are about triangular, the short side of each triangle at the top. The smaller, green sepal near-triangles have their short sides at the bottom. Balance is achieved in so many ways (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; Le Roux, et al, 2005; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
