    Leucadendron linifolium

    Leucadendron linifolium
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Leucadendron linifolium, commonly known as the line-leaf conebush, is a single-stemmed shrub reaching 2 m in height.

The simple, stalkless leaves spiral and ascend up the young stems. They are narrowly oblong, tapering at the base. The bluntly pointed leaf-tips are discoloured red in picture, possibly ending in cartilaginous parts. The smooth, pale green blades are twisted. Leaf dimensions are about 27 mm long and 2 mm wide.

The species distribution is along the south coast of the Western Cape from the Cape Flats and the Strand to Riversdale.

The habitat is dune strandveld, as well as sandstone and limestone fynbos. The species is considered vulnerable in its habitat early in the twenty first century, due to habitat degradation and loss, alien vegetation invasion and plant harvesting (Bean and Johns, 2005; Mustart, et al, 1997; iNaturalist; http://redlist.sanbi.org).
