    Indigofera flabellata bare stem

    Indigofera flabellata bare stem
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Indigofera flabellata loses leaves from old stems, never to get them back again. The lower stems of the plant are leafless with spaced, whitish leaf scars remaining. The stems are purple in slightly varying shades.

The three-foliolate leaves point upwards more than outwards. The reseeding plants grow tall to see sun among fynbos that is competitive after good rain (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007).
