    Agathosma ovata pink-red young anthers

    Agathosma ovata pink-red young anthers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

For a short while during the early floral development of Agathosma ovata the anthers topping the long straight filaments of these young flowers are coloured pinkish red. Dark brown sets in soon. Maybe the brief red stage contributes to enticement of pollinators.

The round-tipped elliptic to cylindrical white petals here spread widely around the ovary, where the short staminodes are not clearly visible.
