    Cyphia volubilis flowers like beads

    Cyphia volubilis flowers like beads
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

This string of mauve Cyphia volubilis flowers on twining stems in grass was seen at Joubertina during May.

The flowers grow on thin, cylindrical stems that branch and are hairless. They are secund, pointing to one side of the stem.

The narrow buds are darker than the open flowers and striped before they open.

Not all agree that the mountain baroe distribution extends as far east as the Eastern Cape (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; JSTOR; iNaturalist).
