    Hermannia lavandulifolia flowers

    Hermannia lavandulifolia flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The flowers of Hermannia lavandulifolia grow in small clusters from leaf axils near stem-tips. Thread-like, green bracts are present behind the calyces, similarly coloured and textured as the leaves.

The yellow flowers are pendulous on hairy pedicels. Five elongated calyx lobes are conspicuously ridged on and beyond the pale, creamy green calyx cup. The five round-tipped petals are broad-tipped and spirally twisted.

Flowering happens in spring although sometimes also in autumn (Curtis-Scott, et al, 2020; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
