    Freesia occidentalis safety in numbers

    Freesia occidentalis safety in numbers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Freesia occidentalis, the shy kammetjie (little comb) or western freesia, is shy enough to hide among rocks, but not too shy to augment its numbers in the secluded colony.

Some of the plants represented by the small fans of leaves are skewed by the rocks that do not yield to corms underground or above (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
