Lampranthus reptans furled corolla, coloured calyx

Lampranthus reptans furled corolla, coloured calyx
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

When the Lampranthus reptans petals are furled, the length differences among them are clearly displayed. Some have slight orange deviations from the yellow colouring.

The short, succulent sepals here add to the floral effect in different triangular shapes, colour variations and dots as on the leaves.

The purple-red stems on the ground compete in colouring with the flowers (Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1996; iNaturalist).
