    Zygophyllum foetidum young stems

    Zygophyllum foetidum young stems
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Young Zygophyllum foetidum stems are green, fleshy and may be faintly channelled, similar to the leaf petioles. The stem nodes may be long between the opposite leaf pairs. Stipules on the stem next to the petiole bases are small, persisting for some time.

Leaflet colouring in this species is sometimes yellow-green or bright green, here bluish green. The leaflet blades in picture are slightly wavy (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2009).
