    Tetragonia reduplicata winged fruit

    Tetragonia reduplicata winged fruit
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The green Tetragonia reduplicata fruit in picture have four well-developed wing blades in a samara structure, drooping from longish pedicels.

There is hardly a seed bulge at this stage in the fruit centre where the wings meet. The wings are fleshy and flat or a little wrinkled, slightly yellower than the leaves. The wing margins are rounded, initially somewhat reddish purple before reaching full size (iNaturalist).
