    Gorteria personata burrs after flowerheads
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Once Gorteria personata flowering is over, the conspicuous plant parts are the burrs at the stem-tips, formed by the involucral bracts at the base of each head. These bracts are narrow, pointed and hairy, protectively enclosing the developing fruits (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Leistner, (Ed.), 2000).
