Ficus cordata subsp. cordata leaves against sunlight

Ficus cordata subsp. cordata leaves against sunlight
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Against sunlight the Ficus cordata subsp. cordata leaf venation becomes conspicuous in creamy yellow translucence. The entire leaf margins display similar colouring when viewed like this.

The sturdy petiole holds the leaf steady, angled slightly down at the point where stalk meets blade.

The pale grey to faintly yellow upper branchlets in picture are not coarse-barked, but marked by many small growth events of the past and thus not quite smooth either (Mannheimer and Curtis, (Ed.), 2009; Coates Palgrave, 2002).
