    Asparagus asparagoides green fruit

    Asparagus asparagoides green fruit
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

A healthy young Asparagus asparagoides berry is a fleshy green sphere with segment lines from base to tip along which it will split when red and ripe. It may be up to 1 cm in diameter, hanging from a long, wiry pedicel. Papery bracts are still present in picture at the fruit base.

The photo was taken in the Biedouw Valley during October (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
