    Sutera foetida stems

    Sutera foetida stems
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

A Sutera foetida plant may branch from the base as the one in picture. The soft, fleshy stems are shades of red-purple or green, similar to the leaf stalks. There are sparse hairs, possibly glandular, scattered upon the stems (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist).
