    Lampranthus coralliflorus flower

    Lampranthus coralliflorus flower
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

A Lampranthus coralliflorus flower bears about two rows of narrowly oblanceolate to linear and round-tipped petals that may spread to 5 cm in diameter. The flower colour is shades of purple-pink, mauve or magenta, sometimes white at the petal bases.

The stamens and staminodes form a short, whitish column in the flower centre. A ring of nectar glands in the flower base serves to benefit the pollinators (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Smith, et al, 1998; iNaturalist).
