    Hypoxis colchicifolia flower

    Hypoxis colchicifolia flower
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The very yellow flower of Hypoxis colchicifolia has six erect, tapering stamens over six tepals that spread. Three tepals are smaller than the others, alternating with them in two whorls, one slightly inside the other.

The outside surfaces of the tepals are green with long hairs. This hairiness is also visible on the closed, green buds.

The flower diameter is from 3 cm to 4 cm (Manning, 2009; iNaturalist).
