    Helichrysum argyrophyllum flowerheads

    Helichrysum argyrophyllum flowerheads
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The open Helichrysum argyrophyllum flowerhead spreads its papery, pointed involucral bracts around the tiny florets in the central disc. The involucre comprises about eight rows of bracts. It may spread from 1 cm to 2 cm in diameter. The outer florets are female, the inner ones bisexual. The photo was taken in March.

The plant resembles H. retortum of the Cape Peninsula and southern coast in the Western Cape (iNaturalist; https://keys.lucidcentral.org).
