    Cryptocarya woodii, the river wild-quince

    Cryptocarya woodii, the river wild-quince
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The green Cryptocarya woodii or river wild-quince fruit is long-pedicelled, its surface shiny.

The fruit-shape may at this stage deviate slightly from spheroid to ellipsoid. There is a distinct knob at the end of the fruit where the flower had been.

Widely spaced lateral veins can be seen ascending on the leaf blades in picture (Coates Palgrave, 2002; Schmidt, et al, 2002; Pooley, 1993).
