    Osteospermum monstrosum branched

    Osteospermum monstrosum branched
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The annual herb, Osteospermum monstrosum, may branch strongly from the base as this plant of the Biedouw Valley did by September. The few thickish branches are sparsely leaved and rebranch higher up, presenting numerous flowerheads and fruits for the benefit of its diverse diner guests.

The flowerheads point up, the fruits down (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007).
