    Lapeirousia fabricii flower tube

    Lapeirousia fabricii flower tube
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The thin flower tube of Lapeirousia fabricii can be from 3 cm to 5 cm long. The brown-red lines upon it are the brightest where the corolla begins to widen into separate tepals but disappear from the spreading lobes.

Only the outer bract is visible around the open flower tube base, pale blue-green with some red (mostly marginal). The yellow-tipped buds in the foreground show their inner bracts as well (Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997).
