    Holothrix secunda flowers

    Holothrix secunda flowers
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

This Holothrix secunda photo is added for its clear images of floral spurs. The short, curved, whitish spurs, thicker than the lateral petals and lip lobes, curve back to the flowering stem from sepal base level, parallel to the green ovaries visible above them.

There is only one spur on a Holothrix flower, more beside than below it. The spurs may be from 1,5 mm to 4,5 mm long (Liltved and Johnson, 2012; Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; iNaturalist).
