    Hermannia aspera old stems

    Hermannia aspera old stems
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

The old, lower stems of Hermannia aspera are woody and rigid, the bark pinkish to brown and fairly smooth, except at the bare nodes.

Old leaves may discolour to slightly brownish green and curve down at the tips, less hairy than the young, bright-coloured ones (Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; https://casabio.org; www.worldfloraonline.org).
