    Didelta spinosa dry bracts

    Didelta spinosa dry bracts
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Only when the bracts around a Didelta spinosa flowerhead become dry are the veins prominent on the desiccated blades, now thin from moisture loss. The brown surfaces turn papery from fleshy and green.

The midribs are fairly straight, while slight meandering occurs in the few main, secondary veins. Strong turns and curves characterise the lesser and diminishing venation that serves local needs.
