Crassula nudicaulis var. platyphylla tall inflorescence

Crassula nudicaulis var. platyphylla tall inflorescence
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

This very long Crassula nudicaulis var. platyphylla inflorescence bearing flower clusters at nearly twenty nodes was seen in the Biedouw Valley during September.

These plants may produce flower stems up to about 40 cm tall. The dense flower clusters are green from calyces predominating (thus far) around the still small, cream corolla tips.

The leaves at the base, less green than the calyces, clasp the stem. They are variably spoon-shaped with bluntly pointed, rounded or squarish tips. The blades are about flat, smooth and thinly succulent (Smith, et al, 2017; Frandsen, 2017; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
