Cotula microglossa stages of floral development

Cotula microglossa stages of floral development
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Cotula microglossa flowerhead stages vary in the photo that was taken in the Biedouw Valley in late September.

Young flowerheads appear flatter, the inner of the two rows of bracts visible along the disc margins, some in picture reddish to orange on their tips. As the flowerhead develops, the rounded mass of florets bulge, the head rounder.

The bracts become hidden and the stamens protrude with appendages at their tips. The four petal lobes are about triangular (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; iNaturalist).
