    Calobota cytisoides shrub

    Calobota cytisoides shrub
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

A Calobota cytisoides shrub may spread as well as retain some erect branches. The size and number of branches do not always allow for a well-rounded plant shape.

The grey-green to grey-blue shrub fits well among the varied vegetation of the Biedouw Valley where the photo was taken. Its yellow flowers are bright though, but so are many spring-flowering plants of the area, including the numerous annuals for a month or so. The plant grows in several habitats, also renosterveld.

Being multistemmed from the base, C. cytisoides is expected to resprout after fire (Vlok and Schutte-Vlok, 2015; Manning, 2007; iNaturalist).
