    Erica ericoides flowering at stem-tips

    Erica ericoides flowering at stem-tips
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Thabo Maphisa

Erica ericoides is one of the so-called true heaths (Baker and Oliver), characterised by short corollas with shallow lobe-tips that are not star-like.

A dense flower cluster is nodding at the tip of every short stem on this Table Mountain plant in March. The upper stems bearing the flowers are short side-branchlets and variously curved from being soft.

The stubby leaves are imbricate (overlapping) on the stems (Manning and Helme, 2024; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; Baker and Oliver, 1967; iNaturalist).
