Oxalis obtusa flowers in a soft shade

Oxalis obtusa flowers in a soft shade
    Author: Ivan Lätti
    Photographer: Ivan Lätti

The delicate tint of these Oxalis obtusa corollas is neither pink nor orange, neither peach nor apricot. Yet it features among the popular shades in a many-hued range. The species produces many flower colours, some of them two-toned as here, yellow in the centre. The petal-shape may be rounded or angular, the margins touching or separate but always spreading in sunshine while the flowers last.

Leaf-shape is also variable in this species. The rounded leaf lobes are here visible near the ground among the grass.

The photo was taken in August in the Tinie Versfeld Wildflower Reserve near Darling (Manning, 2009; iNaturalist; www.pacificbulbsociety.org).
