Gerbera jamesonii in habitat

This Gerbera jamesonii flowerhead seen in September near Roossenekal shows a single, somewhat uneven whorl of long, narrow, strap-shaped ray florets. They recurve to pointed tips around a central disc in which a ring of disc florets is open, flowering yellow. Natural floral colours range from brick-red to scarlet, less often orange or pinkish. Garden cultivars present more variety.

The flat receptacle at the base of the flowerhead does not have scales. The involucre is broadly bell-shaped. Flowering happens in spring and early summer (Manning, 2009; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1882; Letty, 1962; iNaturalist).
