Talinum caffrum flowers

The bright yellow flowers of Talinum caffrum grow solitary or in pairs from leaf axils. Each flower has two sepals. 

The small corolla consists of five pointed petals spreading in a star-shape. The bisexual flower has numerous stamens, the filaments growing from the petal bases. The ovary is superior comprising three carpels.

A flower lasts for one day, often only early in the day. Flowering happens from late spring to early in autumn, mainly in summer.

The fruit is an ovoid, pointed capsule (Smith, et al, 2017; Van Wyk and Gericke, 2000; Germishuizen and Fabian, 1982; iNaturalist).
