Paranomus bracteolaris leaves

Paranomus bracteolaris leaves
Author: Ivan Lätti
Photographer: Judd Kirkel Welwitch

The ascending Paranomus bracteolaris leaves have tips nearly erect from curving up. The leaves are (all) finely divided into needle-like segments, unlike some Paranomus species that have two leaf types on the same plant. The leaves start off very hairy, rendering the bush a greyish appearance; hairs are lost from older leaves. Leaf length is from 3 cm to 6 cm.

Many pollinator species visit P. bracteolaris, including carpenter bees as seen here, monkey bees, honey bees, flies, wasps, butterflies and sunbirds (Manning, 2007; Manning and Goldblatt, 1997; Bond and Goldblatt, 1984; iNaturalist; http://pza.sanbi.org).
